World Alzheimer's Day

Today is World Alzheimer's Day. This is a day when individuals from around the world honor the strength of those living with Alzheimer's and the very special people who work so hard to care for them!

There are currently more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's In the United States! Sadly, that number is expected to triple by 2050! In addition, there are more than 15 million family members and friends who are providing unpaid care for loved ones with this disease. Although supportive programs are available, such as memory cafe's, support groups, educations programs and online information and resources through many elder life organizations, there are still limited and I feel inadequate financial resources for those with Alzheimer's.

So today, take a moment to reflect on those suffering from this disease and their loved one's! If you know someone effected by Alzheimer's reach out to them and offer support. If you know a nurse or nursing assistant, a home care provider, a memory care staff member, a physician or other, who assists in the care of these individuals take a moment to thank them for their efforts, their support, and their compassion.

The journey is a tough one and better with the support of others! Thank you to those who work so hard each day to make a difference in the lives of others!
