Being Prepared for Bad Weather!

Today is the first day of spring, but it may not seem like it to many!!!

In my local DC metro area we are expected to have significant snowfall over the next 24 hours and a Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service from 2 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, March 21.

My local area may have 4 to 8 inches of snow accumulation!

Where is spring????

That being said, until Spring decides to present itself here are some simple guidelines for our remaining winter weather challenges:

- Have an emergency plan in place! Be prepared for power outages as heavy snow can cause problems with power lines and trees!

- Have battery operated flashlights, lanterns, and flameless candles on hand, keep your cell phone and other digital devices charged. Remember to report all power outages to your provider!

- Stock in essentials and ensure that all prescriptions have been filled and that you have plenty of medication on hand. if feeling under the weather seek medical attention before bad weather begins!

- Have a friend, family member, or vendor set up to assist with snow removal.

- Stay inside and off of the streets and roads until the weather improves! Do not take any chances! If you need to be outdoors ensure that you wear warm nonslip footwear and layers!

- If you have health issues that require care in your home ensure that the agency has arranged with the caregiver to stay over time in case the next shift cannot come due to weather safety concerns and unsafe road conditions.

- If you have concerns about prolonged power outages and you know that your home is not equipped to handle this comfortably or safely, seek shelter at a hotel if able and make a fun outing of it. Otherwise try to stay with a close by family member or forined who has all the essentials handled!

- If you have a generator be good about having checks done twice a season to ensure that you are ready in the event of a outage!

Stay warm and safe everyone!
