Living Life!

July 7, 2018

Being a senior or a caregiver can at times be challenging.  Life however, is filled with ups and downs, special memories and difficult times, challenges and triumphs.  Along the way our happiness is truly impacted by how we manage each bump along the way.  We can never completely avoid anger, fear, frustration, or other emotions, but we can move past issues with grace and in a positive, learning way.  Something is to be learned from every interaction in life.  It is how we react  to and move past challenges that carries us forward.  In this regard I wanted to share my personal list of daily reminders as they may serve to be helpful:

1.  Do not bear anger- dismiss anger, do not let it consume you.

2.  Do not worry- as worry and fear are a distraction.

3.  Embrace forgiveness.

4.  Be grateful for even the little things.

5. Be humble, be kind, be patient, be a good listener.

6. Do your work honestly.

7.  Be kind to all living things.

8.  Be true to yourself and your way of being.

9.  Be compassionate to yourself and to others along the way.

10. Be yourself and be happy being yourself!  Live life authentically!

11. Do not judge

12. Impart love and understanding whenever possible.

I have a framed print of these points in my office as a reminder of what is truly important!  I look at my list often...

Finally, I have always remembered and in difficult times reflected upon the insightful words of Bronnie Ware:

5 regrets of the dying from Bronnie Ware, an Australian palliative nurse:

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me

2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard

3. I wish I had the courage to express my feelings

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier

So no matter how difficult your day has been reflect on the above, the positives in your life, those that make life worthwhile, special memories that you are fortunate to have... find the positives as they are still there, live life authentically, and more forward in happiness, embracing moments of joy along the way!
