Good Handwashing is key!

Cases of Norovirus are on the rise in many care communities. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes stomach flu - with diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, body aches, chills, fatigue, dehydration. So how can you protect yourself from getting the Norovirus? The best way to protect yourself is through good hand washing!

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available, but remember that they are less effective against norovirus, so hand wishing is best!

If you or someone in your home is sick with norovirus, stay home and avoid contact with others for at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve.

Clean and disinfect surfaces that may have been contaminated with norovirus - bathrooms, kitchens, and shared spaces.

Avoid touching your face or eyes frequently.

Wash clothing, towels, and bedding that may have been contaminated in hot water.

Use disposable gloves when cleaning up spills or handling contaminated materials.

And again practice good hand washing on a daily basis! (CDC, Cleveland Clinic)
